Sheldon Cooper Costume Ideas

Who is television’s favorite nerd?  If you watch The Big Bang Theory on CBS, chances are you will have a hard time deciding between Sheldon, Leonard, Howard or Raj. Certainly the one with the most oddities is Dr. Sheldon Cooper.

He is as brilliant as he is socially backwards.  With an IQ of 187, he graduated the fifth grade and went straight to college, and finished his first Ph.D. at the age of 16. Along with his roommate Leonard Hofstadter, he works as a theoretical physicist at the California Institute of Technology.

Dressing in a Sheldon Cooper Halloween costume will have everyone smiling from ear to ear because he is so funny-but not because he means to be.

Facts About Sheldon Cooper

Sheldon hails from Galveston, Texas.  Although he knows all about football because his father made him watch it, he has no interest in sports.  He has an older brother who has yet to be given a name, and a twin sister named Missy.  She is his opposite, as she is funny and sociable.

Although it may appear that he is insane, he is not.  His mother had “Shelly” tested when he was a child (although she wishes she had followed up with a specialist in Houston that was recommended to her).

As socially backwards as he is smart. Sheldon cannot read facial cues, does not understand sarcasm, and has no idea why men are interested in women (even though he has a girlfriend named Amy Farrah Fowler). No matter how many attempts she has made, Amy cannot seem to make Sheldon take advantage of her.

Sheldon is a fan of Battlestar Galectica, Star Trek and Star Wars.  He has had an up and down friendship with Will Wheaton, an actor whom Sheldon never forgave for not attending a Star trek convention when he was a teenager.

His favorite song is Soft Kitty, which his mother sang to him when he was sick. Penny now sings it to him when he is ill. The person singing must sing it straight through and not stop.  If she does, then she has to start again from the beginning.

His attempts at humor are lost on everyone but himself. When he does tell a joke, he ends it with the catchphrase “Bazinga!“

What does Bazinga mean?

While the word is not found in the dictionary, one can assume that it is Sheldon's way of saying "Gotcha!". Since he spent so much of his childhood getting beaten up by his twin sister, older brother, and classmates (who frequently gave him "swirlies" in the boys bathroom), Sheldon enjoys getting others in his own attempts at logical humor.

Ideas for a Sheldon Cooper Costume

Sheldon is not a snazzy dresser at all.  You can find him wearing jeans almost all of the time. His other wardrobe components are very basic.  He has a cotton long sleeve crew neck shirt as his base.  It could be solid or striped, but it is always a crew neck and never a turtleneck.

On top of this layer is what makes Sheldon’s outfits so outstanding.  He has an eclectic collection of tee shirts-the likes you have never seen on television before. Even in his thirties, he still wears superhero tee shirts, like Superman and Aquaman. You can also find him wearing shirts with scientific symbols, dinosaurs and robots.

When dressing in a Sheldon Cooper costume, do not forget to part your hair on the side and slick it down if it is unruly. Sheldon’s hair is always short, crisp and neat, as he has it cut on a regular schedule.

If this shirt doesn't scream "Sheldon" as you walk in the door, then what does?

This Superman shirt is just like the one Sheldon wears in The Big Bang Theory. It comes in many sizes and is machine washable.

Sheldon is often seen wearing a solid, long sleeved shirt under his tee shirt like this. Not very fashionable, but then again, this is Sheldon Cooper.  This solid color tee comes in 24 different colors, so you can easily match it to the Big Bang Theory tee shirt you are buying.  They are very reasonably priced and you can wear it again once the party is over.
